Core Programmes: Leadership

Read any newspaper or journal and you will find articles on leadership. Visit any bookstore, and you will find shelves of books on the topic. Today, leadership is in demand. But what IS leadership? Is it accessible to every single person, or are leaders really "born" and not "made"?

Our leadership philosophy is based on the premise that leadership is, in fact, available to anyone who wishes to rise to the challenge. It is comprised of a set of skills and behaviours which can be learned.

Each of our leadership programmes are centred around 5 Pillars of Leadership, which can be represented as:

Resilience
Purpose
Integrity
Relationships
Communication

Our programmes, which are run from 1 to 12 days, are tailored to the specific leadership level required within the organisation, whether this is emerging leaders, or senior executives. The programmes outlined below provide a brief description of the content and objectives, but all our workshops are tailored to each client's needs.

The 5 Pillars of Leadership

This programme explores each of these 5 Pillars of Leadership: Resilience, Purpose, Integrity, Relationships and Communication. It provides a platform from which to develop leadership competencies and is an ideal programme for organisations wishing to review and define the leadership qualities and behaviours they aspire to see in their leaders.

Leadership Fundamentals

This stream of learning is intended to be run as an introduction to leadership for emerging/future leaders. It comprises 6 workshops covering the following topics.

1 - The Differences Between Leadership and Management.
2 - Leading Constructive Feedback (including baseline leadership feedback).
3 - The Impact of Values & Beliefs on Leadership.
4 - A Leader's Motivation & Attitude.
5 - IQ and EQ - the Roles in Leadership.
6 - Speak for Yourself - the Assertive Leader.

The Leadership Challenge

This stream of learning comprises a comprehensive schedule of leadership modules, run once per month, over a 12 month period, and includes a 360° leadership feedback assessment and a personal psychometric appraisal. This learning stream is aimed at team leaders/managers and executives who wish to gain a full understanding of the traits of exemplary leaders, and who are committed to investing time in developing their capabilities. The 360-assessment is repeated at the conclusion of the programme to provide a quantitative indication of the level of improvement in each leader's leadership behaviours.

This programme has been designed to increase leadership behaviours in a results-orientated environment by increasing participants' self-awareness, by developing goals and action plans to practice the concepts taught, and increasing motivation to develop their own skills and those of their constituents (followers). The net result of this is responsible and accountable leaders.

The programme contains minimal theory, with a heavy emphasis on practical tools to use in the workplace, with work projects and reflection sessions to encourage self-awareness. The programme is designed to be self-directed, and participants are expected to undertake some research in their own time to further their understanding of topics discussed.

It comprises modules including:

1 - Leadership Communication preferences (incorporating HBDI®).
2 - Leadership versus Management.
3 - Leadership Feedback (including 360-degree feedback).
4 - Leading Values & Beliefs.
5 - The Resilient Leader (incorporating Resiliency Map®).
6 - Leading Change.
7 - The Inspiring Leader.
8 - Leading Storytelling.
9 - Leading a Feedback Culture.
10 - The Emotionally Intelligent Leader (incorporating EQ Map®).
11 - A Leader's Legacy (including repeat 360-degree feedback).

The Exceptional Leader

This stream is intended for senior executives who have completed The Leadership Challenge or similar programme, and who aspire to not only continue their own leadership development, but also actively assist the emerging leaders. This programme would typically include 4 - 6 modules over a 12 month period, including modules around Jack Zenger's "Exceptional Leader", and would also repeat the LPI 360-degree feedback process. The option to include alternative leadership tools which examine a broader range of leadership competencies is also available. We would explore in detail the "the Secret Language of Leadership", based upon Stephen Denning's book of the same name, and consider Strategic Leadership for the organisation, which can include a strategic planning session based upon the Balanced Scorecard model.

The Resilient Leader

This stand-alone workshop, incorporating Resiliency Map®, explores our ability, as a Leader, to bounce back after setbacks and disappointments, to be flexible and adaptable, and to maintain and increase our effectiveness under pressure. Each of us is born with a renewable capability for resilience - the built-in power to heal, regenerate, and grow beyond our own last known limit.

How well we utilize our resilient nature depends on many things: the number and types of changes or demands our bodies must manage at one time, our attitudes and general beliefs about the world, and the skills we have learned and mastered for dealing with our environments.

This workshop provides an insight into our individual resilience - where our strengths are, and where our potential vulnerabilities are. It provides tools and strategies for building resilient beliefs and competencies, for improving our overall well-being and for increasing our effectiveness as a leader in times of change and pressure.

The Emotionally Intelligent Leader

Emotionally intelligent leaders are able to sense, understand and effectively apply the power and acumen of their emotions.

Leading by example, building resilience, valuing relationships, inviting disagreement, increasing energy & effectiveness under pressure - these are just a few of the essential competencies for leadership in work and in life. Using the power inherent in the EQ Map®, workshop participants gain personal insight and a working understanding of Emotional Intelligence for leadership in business.

Participants understand the Three Driving Forces of Competitive Advantage, and how to develop and apply skills and competencies in Emotional Intelligence to enhance their relationships, and the profitability of their organisation.
